The Fifth European Conference on Wood Modification ECWM5, September 20-21, 2010, Riga, Latvia


The European Conference on Wood Modification is now firmly established as the premier event dedicated to all global wood modification technologies.

The conference provides a forum for members of research organisations and companies to learn about the latest developments in this rapidly changing field.

The conference will cover thermal, oleothermal, mechanothermal, chemical, impregnation modifications, as well as other technologies (microwave, rf plasma, enzymatic, etc.). There will also be sessions dealing with testing methods and standards, environmental issues, and various aspects of commercialisation, as well as our renowned poster presentation sessions.

There will be opportunities for companies to showcase their new technologies and products to an international audience.

The organization of the Conference has received funding from the European Community‘s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under the grant agreement n° 203459 and will be done as an activity of the FP7 project WOOD-NET realized by the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry.

Riga is the capital and largest city of Latvia, a major industrial, commercial, cultural and financial centre of the Baltics, and an important seaport, situated on the mouth of the Daugava. It is the largest city in the Baltic states.

Riga‘s historical centre has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the city is particularly notable for its extensive Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) architecture. The historical centre has many excellent cafes and restaurants through its narrow winding streets, ideal places to relax after a busy day.

Transportation to Centre of Riga, Conference Venue and Airport

Airport is connected with centre of Riga by bus, shuttle-bus "Airport Express" and taxi.

A taxi for transportation from airport to all offered hotels ask 30-60 min depending on traffic. As usually taxi accept only national currency - Latvian lats. Travel from airport to hotel cost 11-15 lats (15-22 EURO).

We introduce You to use BalticTaxi (green cars) http://www.airbaltic.com/public/baltic_taxi_vouchers.html?language=1  . If you arrive with AirBaltic flight, you can buy voucher (12 EURO) on airplane from steward or in BalticTaxi points in airport if you arrive with other company flights. BalticTaxi accept payment in taxi also in EURO.

Shuttle-bus "Airport Express" http://www.airbaltic.com/public/airport_express.html connect airport with Riga center (Radisson Blu (Reval) Hotel Latvia). Cost - 3 Lats, tickets are purchased by the bus driver, cash - Latvian lats is only accepted.

Bus no. 22 connects the airport with the city centre. The bus leaves from the stop opposite the airport car park and runs every 10 to 30 minutes, taking 30 minutes to get to the centre. Cost - 0,5 Lats, tickets are purchased by the bus driver, cash - Latvian lats is only accepted.

You can withdraw Latvian lats (1 EURO = 0,7028 Lats) in airport using Visa, Master or some other cards or exchange in currency exchange points in airport.
